Ancestral domains refer to all areas belonging to ICCs/IPs comprising lands, inland waters, coastal areas, and natural resources therein, held under a claim of ownership, occupied or possessed by ICCs/IPs, by themselves or through their ancestors, communally or individually since time immemorial.

Economic Drivers for Nation-Building

With these great potential, it is only a necessity for indigenous cultural communities and ancestral domains to be capacitated as resilient, responsive, and relevant partners of both the public and private sector to contribute to the recovery of our national economy and the strengthening of complementing local industries. The opportunities that are present inside ancestral domains serve as economic drivers that would propel holistic, inclusive, and sustainable development for the Filipino nation

Improved food security through enhanced food production

Protection and promotion of indigenous arts and culture

Development of ecotourism and creation of cultural highways

Interventions for climate change mitigation through biodiversity protection

Opening of local economic zones for strengthening the processing and manufa

Enhanced and responsible partnerships in the mineral production industry

Sustainable and responsible plantation industries and agro-industries

Establishment of relocation sites for informal settlers in urban areas

Improved access to water for domestic, agricultural, and commercial usage
